Wimmera Hill Pioneer Monument

Wimmera Hill Pioneer Monument / Lookout gives a scenic view over the Southern Cross townsite, local mine activity and farming in the area.

At the top of the hill there is a large monument with tools (shovel, pick, rake and scythe) representing the start of the Yilgarn—mining and farming.

A small ‘bush walk’ weaves amongst mining machinery, and a plaque at the bottom of the hill provides information about the first gold strike in the area.

Wimmera Hill can be located by car off Canopus Street or by a gravel walkway (bush walk route) that runs up to the hill from town, off Altair Street. Canopus Street can also be located off Altair, Antares or Spica Streets from Great Eastern Highway, or by the turn off on Three Boys Road, west of town along Great Eastern Highway.
