Seniors

Homes for the Aged are unit-style accommodation for seniors within the Shire.

Located on Antares Street, Southern Cross, there are 12 units in total for rent.

Rubbish & Landfill

A regular rubbish removal service is conducted on the 2nd and 4th Friday of each month in Southern Cross and Marvel Loch. Rubbish is collected on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month in Bodallin and Moorine Rock.

Householders should note that 240 litre MGB "Wheelie Bins" with lids must be used and are available for purchase ($120.00) from the Shire of Yilgarn. Only household rubbish should be placed in these bins and use of liners is encouraged. Bins are to be placed within one metre of the front verge, with wheels and handles facing the house.

Landfill sites are located in the townsites of Southern Cross, Marvel Loch, Moorine Rock, Bullfinch and Bodallin. Care should be taken when transporting rubbish to disposal sites to ensure it does not blow off or fall from the vehicle being used. All loads are to be properly covered.

Emergency Shelter

A partly furnished crisis house is located in Southern Cross to assist persons in need from domestic violence, financial support, vehicle breakdown or single parents in need of accommodation.

Southern Cross Police Station covers an area of 30,720 square kilometres and provides Police services to a population of approximately 3,000 community members.

Harvest Bans

Information on Harvest Bans can be heard on the Emergency Information Service Hotline: 08-9487 8777. This is updated daily during harvest months with information on vehicle movement bans.

Dog Ranger

For enquires regarding stray animals contact the staff at the Shire on 08-9049 1001 and the dog ranger will be contacted.

Dog Information

Under the provisions of the Dog Act 1976, all dogs within the Shire over the age of three months must be registered. Registration is carried out at the Shire offices during normal office hours and is available for 1 year and 3 year periods.

To obtain a concession rate on registration for sterilised dogs or working dogs, proof of sterilisation must be produced at time of registration.

All dogs must be contained on an owner's property or held on a lead at all times. The Shire of Yilgarn is concerned by the incidence of dogs roaming at large and your cooperation in registering and maintaining control your dogs will be appreciated.

Substantial penalties may be imposed for non compliance.
