Southern Cross District High School

Southern Cross District High School is the largest school in the Yilgarn, catering for approximately 200 students from Kindergarten to Year 11. Correspondence courses can be arranged for Year 12 students where appropriate.

The recent completion of a major building programme at Southern Cross District High School and the sharing of the Southern Cross Telecentre and Shire Library facilities means students can access high quality educational experiences. The school has recently completed a major technology programme with students now being able to access courses via satellite. An optic fibre whole school network allows students access to the wider world via the internet and email as a modern means of learning. Plans are already in place allowing student access to the School Library from home.

The school has specialist facilities in the areas of Home Economics, Manual Arts, Science, Photography, Computing and Pre-Primary Education. We offer courses that are consistent with State Curriculum requirements with students achieving levels above state and national norms.

Learning experiences in the school are aimed at developing greater student responsibility for their own learning under the skilful direction and guidance of dedicated and enthusiastic teaching staff. Secondary students are also exposed to an extensive Career Education programme that includes work experiences, work based learning and culminates in a Vocational Education Training course in Year 11 for trades orientated students.

Southern Cross District High School promotes a strong home/school link and welcomes parent involvement in their child's education. We also have the support of a very strong P&C Association and School Council who provide ideal communication forums for the benefit of all students.
