Southern Cross Airfield
The Southern Cross Aerodrome is located approximately 3 kilometres East of Southern Cross along the Great Eastern Highway.
The aerodrome is used mainly by fly-in/fly-out aeroplanes, as well as the Royal Flying Doctor Service, and the local aeroclub.
The Southern Cross Cemetery is located on Beaton Road, at the northern end of the Southern Cross townsite. The original Southern Cross Cemetery (pictured) is located on the east side of town, on the Great Eastern Highway.

Southern Cross Community Centre
The Southern Cross Community Centre is located on Antares Street, Southern Cross. Re-developed during the 1990s, the Centre has a caterer’s kitchen, a large stage with dressing rooms, tables and chairs and toilet facilities.
The Community Centre is available to hire for various functions. Hire fees are listed below:
- Commercial functions: $335.00
- Private functions: $230.00
- Liquor / Building bond: $200.00
Southern Cross Recreation Complex
The Recreation Complex is located on Spica Street and has the following facilities:
- Lounge area
- Bar Facilities
- Indoor BasketBall Court
- Change Rooms
- Kitchen Facilities
The Sporting Grounds also has a Skate Park, 4 outdoor Netball Courts, Netball Office, Children’s Playground and a football field. The Complex Lounge is available for hire for meetings and functions. To make a booking please contact the Shire during office hours.
Southern Cross Senior Citizen’s Centre
Opened in October 2007 by the Hon Barry Haase, the Senior’s Centre is located on Achernar Street, Southern Cross.
Throughout the week there are activities seniors can participate, such as exercises, morning tea, carpet bowls, etc. HACC hold activities on Monday and Wednesday mornings, contact Donna Newbury for more information regarding HACC on 0417921884. The Southern Cross Public Swimming Pool is located on Antares Street, Southern Cross.
The pool is open during the summer months (November to March) between the hours of 11:00am and 6:00pm daily.
Entry to the Southern Cross swimming pool is free of charge this season.
Please contact the Swimming Pool Manager on 08-9049 1129 during this time for further information or the Shire during off season.
Southern Cross Train Station
The Prospector stops at the train station when booked prior to the date of travel.

The station is located 2km north outside town on Beaton Road. When planning a visit to Southern Cross please arrange someone to pick you up on arrival as there are no bus services or taxis in town to collect you from the station.

Southern Cross Golf Club
The Southern Cross Golf Club is located on Turkey Hill Road, 8km north-east of Southern Cross, towards Bullfinch.

Southern Cross Motorcycle Club
Located 3km south of Southern Cross on Southern Cross South Road, the Club consists of a track and clubhouse. The club organises a major event annually, King of The Cross (see Events section on this web site).

Southern Cross Tennis Club
The Southern Cross Tennis Club is located on the Corner of Spica & Canopus Street, next the Swimming Pool and is collocated with Bowling Club. Tennis is played during the summer months, October until April.

Yilgarn Bowling Club
The Bowling Club is located on the Corner of Spica & Canopus Street Southern Cross and is collocated with the Tennis Club. Bowl season is throughout the summer months, October till March. Ladies competition is held on Tuesdays, Men’s competition held on Sundays and Corporate Bowls held on Fridays, with social bowls also held on some weekends.

Moorine Rock Primary School
Moorine Rock Primary School is a small caring school that fosters community spirit and stability in order to develop student potential and achieve competence academically, socially, personally and physically so that they may perform successfully and confidently in their local community and in readiness for the wider environment.
Moorine Rock is situated 22km west of Southern Cross and was opened in 1926, known as Parkers Range School. Moorine Rock is a small town which services mainly the farming community.
The school is situated on a large block which has an extensive garden, oval, cricket pitch, new basketball/netball court and three buildings that accommodate the Kindergarten to Year 3s, the Years 4–7 age group, and an administration building which doubles as a library/classroom.
The school has an average yearly enrolment of 40 children which enables us to have small numbers in our classes.

St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School
St Joseph’s Catholic Primary School caters for children from Kindergarten to Year 7.

Southern Cross District High School
Southern Cross District High School is the largest school in the Yilgarn, catering for approximately 200 students from Kindergarten to Year 10. Merredin Senior High School Caters for Years 11 and 12. Correspondence courses can be arranged for Year 12 students where appropriate.
The recent completion of a major building programme at Southern Cross District High School and the sharing of the Southern Cross Community Resource Centre and Shire Library facilities means students can access high quality educational experiences. The school has recently completed a major technology programme with students now being able to access courses via satellite. An optic fibre whole school network allows students access to the wider world via the internet and email as a modern means of learning. Plans are already in place allowing student access to the School Library from home.
The school has specialist facilities in the areas of Home Economics, Manual Arts, Science, Photography, Computing and Pre-Primary Education. We offer courses that are consistent with State Curriculum requirements with students achieving levels above state and national norms.
Learning experiences in the school are aimed at developing greater student responsibility for their own learning under the skilful direction and guidance of dedicated and enthusiastic teaching staff. Secondary students are also exposed to an extensive Career Education programme that includes work experiences, work based learning and culminates in a Vocational Education Training course in Year 11 for trades orientated students.

Southern Cross Playgroup
The Southern Cross Playgroup building is located at Constellation Park on Antares Street. The playgroup is run by parents, for parents and is held once a week, on Tuesday mornings 9.30am – 11am.
