Yilgarn Australia Day Celebration
On January 26th Australians all over the country are celebrating! In 1788 a fleet of ships landed at what is now Sydney, Australia with a load of prisoners from England. Whilst the public holiday marks the beginning of the British Penal Colony the day has become a day for Australians to celebrate what it means to be Australian, displaying their love for their country.
Southern Cross hosts an afternoon of celebrations on January 26th, with a BBQ, children's activites and games, such as a bouncy castle, award presentation and an outdoor movie later in the evening. Held at the Sports Complex/Oval many locals brave the heat of the afternoon to enjoy celebrating being Australian with a free sausage sizzle, a drink and a laugh with fellow Australians.
